The Premier League has now begun and we have the latest odds from Paddy Power for the Premier League Playmaker Of The Season award!
The award was first introduced two seasons ago for whichever player finishes the Premier League season with the most assists. Kevin De Bruyne was the first recipient of the award with 16 assists. Last year fellow Belgian footballer Eden Hazard won the Premier League Playermaker Of The Season with 15.
In Premier League history, Ryan Giggs has the most assists of any player with 162 in 632 games. Only two players from the top ten are still playing now in David Silva (83) and James Milnes (82). Fabregas is second in the list of all-time with 111 and he has the best ratio of any player with 0.32 assists per game. Had Fabregas of stayed in the Premier League all his life like Giggs, he probably would have beaten the record. The most assists ever recorded in one season belongs to Premier League legend Thierry Henry. The Frenchman managed 20 in the 2002/03 season.
Assist now are more highly regarded now amongst fans, managers and pundits. A lot of people keep a keen interest in who is providing the chances and it shows who are the most creative players in the league.
Kevin De Bruyne is on the verge of reaching 50 Premier League assists quicker than any of the 36 players who have reached that total in the competition.
De Bruyne has 18 matches to beat Ozil's record of 50 assists in his first 141 PL appearances for Arsenal.

Kevin De Bruyne – 5/2
The Belgian midfielder is the favourite to win this years award and has got off to a great start already. In his first two Premier League games, he has managed three assists. These weren't just simple passes, but world-class balls into the box falling perfectly at the feet of the attacker. He looks like a very good bet for the award, especially considering he is in a City team that score for fun. Last season he only managed two but that was down to being injured. If he can stay fit for the whole season, don't be surprised if Henry's record goes!
Christian Eriksen – 7/1
Eriksen had a good return last season with 12 assists. This season so far he hasn't got one yet but with 36 games to go in the season, it doesn't really matter. He had fantastic link-up play with his Tottenham teammates in Son, Lucas, Kane etc. These players all bring different abilities to the game which is only going to help Eriksen when getting assists. There is no denying his ability to pick a pass and if Kane and Son can stay fit and in the team all season, we should see him rack up a lot of assists, if he stays at Spurs…
Trent Alexander-Arnold – 10/1
Last season was his first the right-back best season in the Premier League by a mile! He was a constant attacking threat down the right-hand side and has a delivery that can threaten any side. He finished the season with 12 assists and has one so far this season. Alexander-Arnold takes freekicks and corners for Liverpool which is only going to help him get more assists. Liverpool likes to play on the break counter-attacking football. This requires accurate passing at the right time, something Alexander-Arnold excels at. He has shown how consistent he is and we fully expect him to take this form into this season.
Paul Pogba – 12/1
Pogba last season recorded nine assists in the Premier Leauge. This was a good return considering that by Christmas he had only managed three. So far this season he is on two assists, both from the first game from Chelsea. They were very good assists showing the fantastic passing that Pogba can produce. He always looks to play forward, sometimes this doesn't work out well but playing positively is only going to create more goal-scoring chances. Pogba may find it easier this season to get assists given that he will be playing the ball into Martial and Rashford, not Lukaku who struggles to control the ball.
Andy Robertson (20/1) – with 11 assists last season, Robertson has shown he is very creative for a left-back. At 20/1 he is a good outside shot.
Nicolas Pepe (50/1) – Arsenals new attacker had a great season in France last year. He managed 11 assists last season, but can he do it in England?
Ryan Fraser (50/1) – At 50/1 he is definitely worth a bet considering he got 14 assists last season. He linked up well with Callum Wilson who is looking to have a big season.
All these odds are from Paddy Power and they have more available on lots of other Premier League players!
