The Premier League is home to some of the world’s best goalscorers and the race for the Golden Boot is always a competitive one, with four strikers in the running this year!
With just 12 games left in the 2019/20 Premier League season, the race for the Golden Boot is hotting up. With not long left it means that every goal will make a difference come May.
Last seasons winner in Mane, Salah and Aubameyang are once again in the running this season joined by some other world-class forwards. Both Salah and Aubameyang have won it in every season they’ve played in so will be hoping to keep the record going.
Only Henry and Shearer have won the trophy three times in a row and Salah will be looking to join that elite club this season.
Pierre-Emerick Aubamayeng: 13/5
The Gabonese striker wasn’t one of the favourites earlier on in the season surprisingly. However, recently he has climbed back up the top goalscorers table and has 17 goals to his name. Since he was handed the captains armband he has got 10 goals in 15 games. Aubamayeng has been in consistent form throughout the season, with going no longer than three games without a goal. Considering this and the fact his side are in better form under Arteta, Aubamayeng will expect to break the 20 goal mark easily this season and be near the top come to the end of the season.
Sergio Aguero: 11/4
Man Citys number 10 only has one Golden Boot to his name but is one of the leagues greatest ever goalscorers. He is on 16 for the season so is well in the race. Aguero bost’s the best goals to minutes ratio with one goal every 84 minutes. If he consistently starts until the end of the season then he would be a great bet to win his second top scorer trophy. City are still in the Champions Leauge so this could limit Agueros playing time, but given that he has three braces and one hattrick this season he may not need that many games!
Jamie Vardy: 7/2
At one stage in the season, Vardy was running away with the Golden Boot and was going to win his first one. He has 17 goals so far with 11 of them coming in a run of just eight games. Since then though Vardy hasn’t managed a goal in seven games. Vardy is the main man at Leicester and will always be chosen to lead the line over Iheanacho. Out of all the top scores around him, Vardy has the best shots on target percentage out of the lot of them with 65%. If Rodgers can get him back to his scoring form then he will be right in the mix.
Mo Salah: 5/1
Since he joined the Premier League in 2017/18, no one has scored more goals than Salah in the Premier League. It makes no surprise that he is now back up there with them after a slow start to the season by his account. He has 15 goals so far and given that Liverpool are beating pretty much every team they play, Salah is bound to get more. He has the most goals for Liverpool this season and is there penalty taker. Klopp doesn’t tend to rest Salah so we can expect to see him a lot more this season, at least until they wrap the title up!
Danny Ings (16/1) – The Southampton striker is in the form of his life on 15 goals. One big push until the end of the season could see him called up to the England squad for the Euros.
Sadio Mane (16/1) – Backing up Salah with the goals is Mane. He’s one of the favourites to win the PFA Player Of The Year award and a Golden Boot would help his cause massively.
