With one game left to go in the Champions League group stages, what exactly does each team need to qualify into the Round of 16?
This week was matchday five of this seasons Champions League campaign. The group stages start to get really interesting now as every point and result matters. From the group stages team can go three different ways.
If you finish in the top two you go through to the Round of 16. Depending on where you finish, determines who you will play. The team who finished top of a group will draw a team who finished second in another group. This is to supposedly give an advantage to the best teams so far.
Finishing third in the group stages means you are knocked out of the Champions League. However, it’s not the end of the European competitions as you then go and play in the Europa League. Finally, if you finish fourth, you will be knocked out of all European competitions for this season.

Champions League Groups
In terms of qualification for the next round, this group is decided. PSG will top the group regardless of the result in match week 6. Real have taken the second spot with the Europa League spot still up for grabs. Galatasary are one point behind Club Brugge and the results from the next round of games will decide who goes where.
This group is the same as group A. Bayern have topped the group having won all five of their games with Spurs in second place. The final two teams are FK Crvena Zvezda and Olympiacos. The Serbian side faces Olympiacos in the next set of fixtures and as long as they don’t lose they will be in the Europa League.
Man City are at the top of Group C with three wins and two draws. The next three spots are up for grabs between any of Dinamo Zagreb, Shakhtar Donetsk and Atalanta. Shakhtar takes on Atalanta in which could be the vital game in this group to decide who ends up where. If Man City beat Zagreb the best they can get is Europa League.
After beating Atletico midweek, Juventus are top of their group. Simeone’s team go into matchday six needing a win to guarantee qualification. Bayer Leverkusen hosts Juventus and if they get a win then it will put all the pressure on Atletico, who did beat Lokomotiv Moscow the first time they met.
This group is one of the most exciting ones left. Just three points split Liverpool, Napoli and Salzburg. All three of these sides can finish anywhere in the top three places. One thing they all have going into the last game is that they will be playing some form of European football. Liverpool won’t need this type of fixture with them trying to defend their nine-point lead in the Premier League.
A 3-1 win against Borussia Dortmund has put Barcelona top of Group F. In second is Inter Milan and Dortmund are third. Both sides are on seven points, with Dortmund behind on goal difference. Inter will host Barcelona in the last game of this years group stages meaning they’re going to need a huge performance to go through!
This Group is the same as Group E. RB Leipzig are top on 10 points with Zenit second on seven and Lyon third on seven also. Both side also has the same goal difference. In the last game week, Benfica take on Zenit and interestingly, a high scoring win for Benfica here could see them sneak into third and maybe even second! With any real results possible this is going to be a group to keep an eye on!
The final group is another three-way tie. Ajax is top with 10 points and then Valencia are second with eight. Just behind them in third is Chelsea also on eight points. Chelsea takes on Lille and if they win by a big amount than Valencia beat Ajax by, they would finish the group top with Valencia second. Ajax only needs a point against the Spanish club though to go through to the next round of the competition.
