Europa League Final Preview

The first European final of the season takes place on Friday night with Inter Milan taking on Sevilla in the Europa League final

After we initially thought we wouldn’t have any European competitions played this season, we are now two days away from the Europa League final and the Champions League semi’s are currently taking place. Over the years, the Europa League has developed its status as a big competition.

Initially, it was seen as a poor mans Champions League with a low standard of clubs. However, now many bigger teams are in the competition and it is seen as an easier way of getting into the Champions League.

This years final is between Inter Milan and Sevilla. Inter got to the final very convincingly beating Shakhtar Donetsk 5-0. Sevilla got here the hard way. They beat Man United 2-1 after going 1-0 after just nine minutes. They got a late winner to send out the favourites of the competition.

Sevilla vs Inter Milan

Even though this is Sevilla’s fourth Europa League final in seven years, they still aren’t the bookmaker’s favourites. BoyleSports fancy Inter to win their first trophy since 2011 at 4/6. Sevilla are priced at 6/5, so not written off by the bookies at all!

As we mentioned, Sevilla are very experienced in this competition. Of the three finals they have been to before this one, they won all three of them. Inters last Europa League final was in 1998 when they beat Lazio 3-0.

Conte’s side have been in fantastic form this season. They finished just one point behind Juventus in the Serie A and have played some great football. Conte brought in Lukaku at the start of the season and has since scored 33 goals for them. Sevilla finished fourth in their league which is still a great result considering they have some of the worlds best teams in their league.

BTTS at 8/11 looks a good bet for this one. Milan were scoring for fun in their last game and Sevilla managed two against Man United. With it being a final both sides will have to go for in and we would expect this to come in. Another one we like the look of is over 2.5 goals at 10/11. It came in in the semi’s for both sides and has come in, in four of the last five Europa League finals.

Overall, we fancy Inter to win this game. Even though Sevilla are a very well organised team and hard to break down, we think Inter will have too much for them. Their two strikers are in great form and Inter have a great squad. On top of that, Inter also have Conte, who won this competition last season.
