Champions League and Europa League both to be played in mini one leg tournament during August!
Now all of Europe’s top leagues are back playing football, everyone was eager to find out when the Champions League and Europa League would resume. Yesterday UEFA made the announcement that it will be played in August in Germany and Lisbon.
The idea is that the knockout games will be played in an international tournament style. Each game is only going to be one leg and played at a neutral ground. The Champions League games are going to be in Lisbon and the Europa League in various German cities.
The Champions League starts on 7th August and the final on the 23rd, and the Europa on 5th August with the final on the 21st. This is a major change to what we’re used to, however, it means we will have winners of both competitions.
Champions League Odds
Bayern Munich are the current favourites to win this year’s Champions League at 11/4. Since the restart, they have played fantastic and capped it off the other night by winning the Bundesliga. They have won the Champions League five times, the last of which was in 2013. Now its one leg ties, it can go to pens and you know how good Germans are at penalties!
Just behind them are Man City at 3/1. Pep was brought in to win this competition and this could be his best chance. On their day they can beat any side in the world and one leg matches may suit them. They can’t win the league anymore so can use their remaining league games as preparation for this competition.
PSG are in with a good chance also at 11/2. Their league was ended early and they were awarded the points. PSG have a fantastic squad with Neymar and Mbappe to name a few. With no matches until the Champions League, all their preparation can go into this one, making sure everyone is fit and ready.
Barcelona are priced at a generous 6/1. They may have bottled a 3-0 lead last year in the semi-finals, but they will only have learnt from this. Any side with Messi, Suarez and Griezmann in plus a whole host of other world-class players. Just like City, Barcelona can beat anyone on their day.
Paddy Power has odds on all the 12 teams left in the competition. With the round of 16 games still needing to be played, the odds will change before the tournament starts. Make sure to get your bet on before they drop!
