This weekend four of the Premier Leagues biggest teams play in the semi-finals of the FA Cup, with a Manchester Derby final potentially happening!
After football took a prolonged break, many wondered whether the FA Cup would be played this season. The FA Cup is the oldest competition in football. It was first started back in 1871/72. Since then The FA Cup has only not been played during World War 1 and 2.
Since football returned, the quarter-finals have been played. There we no surprise teams in the last eight and all of them were Premier League sides. This meant there would be some tasty semi-finals.
Man United beat Norwich in extra time, and they drew Chelsea who beat Leicester 1-0. Arsenal beat Sheffield United 2-1 with a last-minute winner and they will face Man City, who beat Newcastle 2-0.
These are two very exciting matchups. When these games have been played in the league this season or the league cup, there has been drama, excitement and goals.
Man City will be the happiest of the four sides with the draw. Neutrals will be hoping for a Manchester Derby final, as this will probably be the best game between the four sides.
Arsenal vs Man City
The first fixture of the FA Cup semi-final weekend is Arsenal vs Man City. The two sides meet for the fourth time this season on Saturday night at 19:45 pm. Arsenal by now will be sick of the sight of Man City. In three games this season, City have come away 3-0 winners each time.
City now can’t win the league, even though this was a huge ask, so can turn their attention to the FA Cup. They won the competition last year, and would love to add it to their Carabao Cup they won this season. They are the 3/10 favourites for the game at an empty Wembley Stadium.
Arsenal are priced at 15/2, and this isn’t surprising especially due to their recent form. They have won one, drawn one and lost one in their last three. Arteta is struggling with his defence of late and you don’t need this when coming up against Pep.
We can see Man City winning this one comfortably in normal time and booking their place in the final of the FA Cup once again.
Man United vs Chelsea
Another fixture that’s happened three times this season and another one that the side from Manchester has won. These two sides take each other on, on Sunday night at 18:00. United have played well whenever they’ve played Chelsea this season. Solskjaers side have scored eight goals in three games and conceded just one.
However, what is interesting about this fixture is that both sides are still trying to get themselves in the top four. Chelsea is one point ahead of Man United currently and neither side can afford to drop any more points. Because of this, we may see slightly different line up to what were used to on Sunday and both managers will prioritise Champions League qualification over the FA Cup.
This will be a tough game to call. If both sides play their strongest elevens, we would be backing Man United. They have overturned Chelsea three times already and now have Pogba and Bruno back. However, due to the importance of other games, we can see this finishing a draw and be decided in either extra time or penalties.
