Royal Ascot is one of the main flat racing events of the calendar. It is attended by the Royal Family each day who arrive in a horse-drawn carriage. Over the week around 300,000 people will attend the racing week with some big bets to be won and lost.
This year’s best bet so far though belongs to Twitter user @jbchips. He thought that Ladies Day at Royal Ascot belonged to one Frankie Dettori. He put a £10 accumulator on Dettori to win every single race of the day, which returned a staggering £1,005,322.40. Not that the 40p really makes that much of a difference…
He got off to a perfect start with Dettori winning the first three races on, A’ali (11/2), Sangarius (7/1) and Star Catches (8/1). All good winners, none of which went off as favourites. Next up was Stradivarius in the Gold Cup. He was going off as the favourite in this race priced at 6/5 at the start of the day.
Currently, @jbchips’ cash out was sitting at £15,335.56. Not knowing what to do he went to twitter for help. Should he stick with it and hope last years Gold Cup winner could win again?
Twitter was split, many saying take it, others saying to keep going as the next horse was a favourite. It appeared as though he listened to those who fancied Stradivarius, or they just wanted to see what his cash out would be if he won!
Holy mother of god…
WHAT DOES @jbchips DO?????

So he let the bet run and thankfully Stradivarius managed to retain his Gold Cup and keep @jbchips’ accumulator alive! He was now faced with the decision of letting it run again for Detorri to win five in a row or cash out for £44,336.71. The next horse was a Turgenev at 12/1. He chose not to push his look and took £44k!
What a cash out it turned out to be as well! Turgenev didn’t win the next race, it was beaten by 28/1 outsider Biometric by a length. What a nervous few seconds that must have been!
