Mauricio Pochettino Replaced By The Special One

In a shock move by Daniel Levy, Mauricio Pochettino has seen his time come to an end at Spurs with Jose Mourinho in as his replacement!

It appears that Spurs have had enough of this poor run of form and think the best response is to sack Pochettino. The ex-Southampton manager was told on Tuesday night that he wouldn’t be needed anymore. It was a move that surprised everyone and disappointed greatly the Spurs fans.

Under Pochettino Spurs fans had seen their side become a consistent top-four side. They looked better than ever in the Premier Leauge and he even guided them to a Champions League final last season. All this was done under Daniel Levy, one of the toughest football chairmen to get to spend money!

Even though they came runners up in the Champions League final, this season was looking to be a positive one for Spurs. Levy actually parted with some money and they brought in Jack Clarke, Tanguy Ndombele, Ryan Sessegnon and Giovani Lo Celso. On top of this, they managed to keep all of their main first-team players.

However, this never really seemed to get Spurs’ season going. Fast forward to November and it has been a car-crash of a season. They are currently sitting 14th in the Premier League, 20 points off Liverpool who are top of the league and at 2/5 on Betfair! On top of that, they have already been knocked out of the Carabao Cup by League Two side Colchester United. If that wasn’t enough they were battered 7-2 by Bayern Munich at the new £1 billion stadium in the Champions League.

Taking all this into account and the fact Pochettino himself had said earlier maybe he had done the best he could, Levy decided to act. The timing could have been better as Christmas is approaching and the games come thick and fast. But maybe a new face will help them in this period more than Pochettino would of.

With Spurs now managerless, albeit for about five minutes, the rumours were flying around who would come in. Levy wasted no time and Mourinho appointed Mourinho 12 hours later.

The Portuguese manager needs no introduction. With eight Premier League seasons and three titles under his belt plus a Champions League trophy he is one of the best ever. However, after a tough time at Man United, it’s going to be interesting to see how he gets on. Many still think that Mourinho needs to change his dated tactics. At Old Trafford, we would see him set up to play on the counter-attack. This got very frustrating for the Man United fans, something Spurs fan will be hoping won’t happen.

To celebrate Mourinho arriving at Spurs, Betfair have set up a whole Specials page for him. These include bets such as:

  • Gareth Bale to sign by February 3rd 2020 – 2/1.
  • NOT to be in charge of Tottenham on the 17th May 2020 – 5/1.
  • Tottenham to win all four league games against Chelsea & Man Utd 19/20 – 50/1.

The 50/1 offer will be a very interesting one. Mourinho faces his Solskjaers United and Lampard’s Chelsea next month is massive games for all teams involved.

These are just a selection of some of the specials on offer at Betfair. We don’t know for sure which will come in (obviously) but we do know with Mourinho back in the Premier League it’s going to be an even more entertaining season!
