This Sunday marks the return of competitive football for England’s top teams as Liverpool takes on Manchester City in The Community Shield.
Man City are in the final due to winning the Premier League. Liverpool has got to the final due to coming second in the Premier League. Usually, it is the winners of the FA Cup but as City won that as well, Liverpool will be going to Wembley.
The Community Shield isn’t looked upon as a big trophy to win, however, it is still an exciting game. Fans get to go to Wembley to watch their teams play which always make for a good atmosphere. It is also usually a time where we get to see clubs new signings properly for the first time.
Man City pre-season results
City have had a good pre-season winning three out of their four games. They only lost one game which was to Wolves and that ended on penalties. They did, however, beat fellow Premier League side, West Ham 4-1.
Over the four games, City have scored 13 goals and conceded just three. This is the type of numbers we were used to seeing last season with Pep Guardiola’s side. In these games as well, Sterling, Sane, Silva and De Bruyne have all come back strong and got on the score sheet.
Pep will take a lot of confidence out of this preseason with all his players back fit and playing well with the only absentee being Sergio Aguero.
A wonderful Asia tour and some wonderful strikes!

Liverpool pre-season results
Klopp’s pre-season has been pretty much the opposite of what Guardiolas was. Liverpool started with two-games against Bradford and Tranmere in which many academy players were featured and the first team played little time.
They then went on tour and this was when more of the first team featured. They didn’t win a single game whilst away, drawing one and losing three. These were games against opposition from Europes biggest leagues.
Liverpool lost to Napoli, Sevilla and Borussia Dortmund whilst drawing with Sporting Lisbon. They conceded ten along the way whilst only scoring five. However, they were missing Firmino, Mane, Salah and Alisson. Four of their most important influential players.

The Community Shield
The two sides will play each other at Wembley on Sunday. Man City won this game last year, beating Chelsea 2-0. Liverpool last played in a Community Shield final in 2006, where they also beat Chelsea.
Man City and Liverpool played each other twice last season, they drew the first game 1-1 at Anfield and City on the next one at the Etihad 2-1.
Going into the game on Sunday, Man City would be most peoples favourites. They have had a good pre-season and have a full squad. Liverpool haven’t done so well and even though they have Salah, Alisson and Firmino returning on Monday, this only leaves them a week to get back to match fitness.
City are the 10/11 favourites on Paddy Power with Liverpool priced at 5/2 to win the game in 90 minutes. Paddy Power also has other markets available including correct score, who will score and many more.
